Captain - Michael Hay

Nationality: Australian

Interests: Snowboarding, Surfing, Riding his Motorbike and Sailing

Michael grew up in Australia and has always loved the ocean. He has an ongoing passion for visiting surf spots all over the world and taking on adventures riding his motorcycle throughout. Michael, being the ambitious human that he is has many exciting projects happening on the side with the most exciting one being the renovation of a 95 year old wooden sailing ship. Sailing her half way across the world already, she remains an ongoing mission to sail to his homeland, her final destination. As a Captain, Michael’s mission is to make things happen. Commitment and a can-do attitude is a special element that our Captain possesses and we are very excited for you to experience.

Rotational Engineer
David Griffith

Nationality: Australian

Interests: Sailing, Riding motorbikes, Fishing and Camping.

David grew up in Canberra, Australia, he enjoyed many weekends going camping, fishing and sailing. Once David graduated high school he worked in commercial shipyards for 12 years whilst gaining his Engineering degree. In 2000 David moved to Europe to start his yachting career. At this time, he predominantly worked on Sail Yachts and assisted in Yacht building before working on Motor Yachts. When David is not working he enjoys spending time at home with his beautiful wife and son.

Executive Chef
Isaac Camilleri

Nationality: Maltese

Interests: Outdoors, Judo, Exploring Nature, Food and Playing the Guitar and Piano.

Isaac has a long catering background starting from a young age helping in his families restaurant. At age seventeen he trained at the Hilton on Park Lane in London, UK. After a short three year hotel experience, Isaac started to explore fine dining restaurants and at age twenty two he became Head Chef at a small upmarket bistro. Isaac was twenty four when he was introduced to the yachting world and has been involved ever since. On the side Isaac also runs his own business which included fine dining experiences in Malta, Europe and the UK.

Charlie Hatcher

Nationality: British

Interests: Rugby, Skiing, Water sports and Being Outdoors

Charlie grew up in a family being the eldest of four, on the South Coast of Cornwall in England. He has been sailing on the Cornish coast since the age of five, at first dinghy sailing then moving on to his family’s yacht. Charlie has been in the yachting industry for six years and is thoroughly enjoying everything it brings. Charlie enjoys spending as much time as he can skiing in the Alpes or enjoying time in the sun on a beach. Charlie hopes to make your stay as fun, exciting and smooth as possible  

RELIEF CAPTAIN
ROSS O’BEIRNE

Nationality: South African

Interests: Navigation & Weather, Fishing, Surfing, Tennis, and Golf .

Ross was raised in a coastal town in Durban, South Africa where he fixated himself around shore, deep sea & kayak fishing, spearfishing & surfing, learning everything related to weather systems, ocean currents and tides. 

The past 20 years have groomed Ross into an ambitious, well organised and adventurous Captain. He has a passion for navigation and hospitality and with his comprehensive hands on approach aims to make every guests dreams come true on Motor Yacht Ruya.

In his off time, Ross, spends most of his time with his wife and baby daughter.

GYLAN MANSON

Nationality: Scottish

Interests: Music, Playing his Ukulele, Walks, Making pizza and Bread

Gylan grew up in Shetland with a big family. He went to Glasgow for three years to study marine engineering. Since then he has worked on both cargo ships then cruise ships for seven years combined. He was then introduced to the yachting industry which he has been apart of for twelve years. Gylan has a deep love for music and enjoys singing as well as playing his guitar, ukulele and harmonica. When not working Gylan likes to spend his time at home in Aberdeen with his beautiful wife, son and dog.

Bella Andrews

Nationality: Australian

Interests: Swimming, Travelling, Music, Dance and Snorkelling

Born in Sydney Australia, Bella grew up near the beautiful white sandy beaches all around her. She enjoyed many weekends in Sydney Harbour on her family’s sailing boat. In 2018 she spent a year living in England and travelling Europe, this ignited her passion for travel and experiencing different cultures. Bella has been working in hospitality for many years and gained her degree in Business and Event Management. Bella looks forward to welcoming you onboard Ruya and hopes to make your stay a memorable one.

Daisy Fitzgerald

Nationality: Australian

Interests: Surfing, Reading, Running and Swimming

Daisy grew up beachside in a small surf town in the sunny Gold Coast, Australia. She grew fond of the ocean from a young age and spent many days surfing after school. Daisy has worked in hospitality from a young age and was introduced to the yachting industry last year. She has loved every minute since and is excited to grow and learn more in the upcoming years. Daisy wishes to make your stay on Ruya a unique experience.

First Officer
Ruhan Grobler

Nationality: South African

Interests: Hiking, Safety, Diving and Going on adventures

Ruhan grew up in Northern Cape, the desert region of South Africa. He spent many holidays diving and cruising the coast of South Africa and Mozambique on catamarans, where his love for the ocean developed. Prior to joining yachting Ruhan completed a Law degree and volunteered in Israel for a year at a hospital. He was introduced to the yachting world by other volunteers and has been in the industry for seven years. Ruhan looks forward to making your experience safe and unforgettable onboard Ruya.

2nd engineer/ Deckhand Charl van Niekerk

Nationality: South African

Interests: Enjoys hiking, Exploring new venues, Scuba diving and Martial arts

Growing up 40 minutes outside of Cape Town, Charl has always been drawn to the ocean, spending his off time swimming and surfing and at the beach. Charl studied Mechanical Engineering and then worked as a design engineer for a magnetics company. After a year, Charl was introduced to the yachting industry where he quit his job and moved to Mallorca to start a new career. He has mostly held dual roles moving between deck and the engine room.

Ashley Marrazzo

Nationality: American

Interests: Baking, Snowboarding, Arts and Crafts and Music

Ashley grew up in New Jersey on a farm with a large family of 8. She has worked in the hospitality industry and been a nanny for many years. Ashley decided to take this a step further and completed her degree in Hospitality at college. Prior to joining yachting, Ashley spent time volunteering, including a mission trip to the Dominican Republic as well as being a summer camp councillor for seven years in Pennsylvania. Ashley has an eye for detail and cannot wait to make your stay on Ruya an incredible one.
